I took Mr. Destructo to his first children's theater show over the weekend--Busytown! When I first took Penguin Girl to see the production of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie," she cried when the show was over because she wanted to see more. To keep that from happening, I told Mr. Destructo that I would take him out to lunch afterwards and I gave him the opportunity to choose what we'd eat. Cookout!
The day before the show, Mr. Destructo told me he wanted to eat 5 things at Cookout: cheeseburger, corndog, french fries, chicken nuggets, and chocolate chip with mint shake. I tried to talk him out of one of the fried items because the combo only comes with 2 sides but he was very insistent. The next day, I asked if he was sure he wanted to go to Cookout because he could have other foods that he likes such as mac 'n cheese. He really liked that idea.
The show was very fun. They had a pickle car, a cheese car, a crayon car, and more. Mr. Destructo said his favorite character was Sgt. Murphy, the policedog. And his favorite part was seeing the firetruck come to put out the fire that Huckle started when he tried to bake a cake for Betsy.
At the very end of the show, they released balloons off the balcony. It was very festive but very disappointing for Mr. Destructo since we could not catch a balloon where we were sitting. I thought it was really terrible planning to incorporate the balloons in the finale when the audience is full of pre-schoolers and there would be no where near enough for each kid to take one home. Luckily, outside in the children's library, there was some sort of fair going on and a young woman in a rabbit suit was making balloon sculptures for free. We got on line and Mr. Destructo requested a dark blue sword. He was very, very pleased with the sword. And he agreed that the sword was way better than a stinky regular balloon. (The next day when the sword lost some air, he discovered that you can manipulate the shape of the balloon by squeezing it. Unfortunately, he did a little too much squeezing and popped it. Waaaahhh!)

We had a nice mac 'n cheese lunch at Lupie's. Our regular waitress asked Mr. Destructo where his sister was and he told her about Busytown. Mr. Destructo did get a little antsy during some of the musical numbers but he was a pretty good audience member.
